Intakes vs Sortly

Sortly and Intakes answer different questions. Sortly answers where is it and how many are there, with photos, barcode labels, a mobile app and reports on moves and low stock, for businesses tracking supplies, tools and assets. Intakes answers what did it cost and what did it earn, with purchases, lots, sales from eBay and Etsy, fees, production and taxes. If you are not selling what you track, Sortly is the better tool. If you are, Sortly leaves out the half you need.

The honest split

Where Sortly is the better choice

  • You track supplies, tools or assets rather than goods you sell.
  • Barcode or QR labels and a scanning app are how your team works.
  • You want a free plan for up to 100 items, or offline access in the field.
  • You need QuickBooks Online to receive purchase orders and invoices.

Where Intakes is the better choice

  • You sell what you track, and need the cost and profit of each piece.
  • You buy lots for one price, or hold stock by quantity.
  • You sell on eBay or Etsy and want orders and fees arriving on their own.
  • You make things and need their real cost.
  • You want your year-end figures from the same system that holds the stock.

Questions people ask

Can Sortly track profit?
Not as its site describes it. Sortly tracks what you have, where it is and what it is worth at the cost you enter, with photos, barcodes and reports on quantities, moves and low stock. It has no sales, no marketplace connections and no cost-of-goods or profit figures. Intakes is built around exactly those: purchases, sales, fees and the profit on each.
Does Intakes do barcodes?
Not yet. Sortly generates barcode and QR labels and scans them in its mobile app, which is a large part of why warehouses and tradespeople pick it. Barcode labels and scanning are on Intakes’ roadmap; today stock is found by name, SKU, photo and storage location.
Who is each one for?
Sortly names construction, medical, warehouses, property and events among its customers: businesses tracking supplies, tools and assets. Intakes is for businesses that buy stock to sell, or make things to sell, and need to know what each piece cost and earned.
Could I use both?
Only if you keep two inventories, which nobody wants. The honest answer is that they are rarely the same decision: a reseller or a maker who looked at Sortly usually wanted the cost and sales side it does not have, and a business tracking tools and supplies does not need the sales side Intakes has.

Not just where it is — what it cost and earned.

Every item carries the cost it came in at, every sale its fees, and every report the profit between them. 90 days free, no card.
