Etsy fee calculator: what you actually keep from a sale

Type in a sale and what it cost you. You get every fee Etsy charges, your profit after your own costs, and the price you would need to charge for the margin you want.

Did the order come through an Offsite Ad?

12% if your shop sold $10,000 or more in the last year, 15% otherwise. Capped at $100 an order.

%

Not your money, but Etsy's processing fee is charged on it. About 7% is typical in the US; set 0 to leave it out.

How it is worked out

Etsy charges a US shop three fees on every sale, and a fourth on some. They are charged on different amounts, which is why a quick “Etsy takes 6.5%” undercounts by about a third.

  • Listing fee — $0.20 per item sold. Paid when you list, and again when the listing sells and renews itself. An order of three from one listing pays it three times.
  • Transaction fee — 6.5% of the item price, the shipping you charge and any gift wrap.
  • Payment processing — 3% + $0.25 of everything the buyer pays, sales tax included.
  • Offsite Ads — 15% or 12%, only on an order that came through one of Etsy’s ads, never more than $100.

Profit is what the buyer paid you, less those fees, less what the order cost you: the item, the postage and the packaging. The margin is that profit as a share of what the buyer paid you, tax left out. “What should you charge?” searches for the lowest price that still leaves the margin you ask for, with every fee recalculated at that price.

The fees are Etsy’s published US rates as of October 2026. The real figure on an order can differ by a cent where Etsy rounds, and Etsy can change its fees; your shop’s payment account shows what was actually charged.

Questions people ask

How much does Etsy take from a sale?
For a US shop, about 9.5% of what the buyer pays plus 45 cents: a $0.20 listing fee for the item sold, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item, shipping and gift wrap, and a 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee on the whole order including sales tax. An order that came through an Offsite Ad adds 12% or 15% of the sale, capped at $100.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee covers what you charge for shipping as well as the item, and the processing fee covers the whole amount the buyer pays. Free shipping does not avoid it — it moves the shipping cost into the item price, where the same 6.5% applies.
Why does sales tax change my fees?
Etsy collects sales tax from the buyer and sends it on, so the tax is never your money. But the 3% payment processing fee is charged on the full amount the buyer paid, tax included, so a little of your fees is fees on tax. At a 7% tax rate that is about 21 cents on a $100 order.
What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
When a buyer clicks one of Etsy’s ads for your item on another site and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges 15% of that order, or 12% if your shop has sold $10,000 or more in a year (at which point the ads are mandatory). It is charged only on those orders, and never more than $100 per order.
Is this calculator right for shops outside the US?
The listing and transaction fees are the same everywhere, but payment processing depends on where your bank account is: 4% + £0.20 in the UK, 4% + €0.30 in most of the EU, 3% + 0.25 in Canadian and Australian dollars for domestic sales. Some countries also add a regulatory operating fee or VAT on fees. The figures here are for a US bank account.
